Health Education Standards for High School Curriculum

ESP's pre-parenting program can help high schools meet their health education standards.   

Our instructional materials support the following California standards in the Growth and Development and Sexual Health Section:
  • Essential Concepts (EC) 6 - Discuss the social, emotional, and physical responsibilities of parenting.
  • Accessing Valid Information (ACC), 6. - Identify the criteria for selecting quality childcare services
  • Accessing Valid Information (ACC), 10. - Investigate current research on effective parenting skills
  • Practicing Health-Enhancing Behaviors (PB), 4.- Analyze the skills and attitudes needed to become a competent parent

Title V - Federal Funding

Our pre-parenting education program for high school students also qualifies for Title V funding for innovative program assistance.

The School-Based Program

"Top Ten Things to Know about Parenting (even before you are one)"

Description: An enrichment program for high school classes (e.g., health education) that can be flexibly scaled from 3 to 12 hours of instruction

Workshop Goals:At the end of this workshop, participants will have gained...
  • A “Big Picture” perspective of parenting roles and responsibilities
  • Information necessary to make good pre-conception choices
  • Tools and techniques to handle the most common threats to good parenting
  • A completed Life-Plan Workbook, with personal goals and strategy
